UNBRIDLED EMBROIDERY: Experimental embroidery is on display.

An exhibition of textile art, more precisely experimental embroidery, will take place from August 1 to 9, every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The opening will be held on Saturday August 1 at 2 p.m. The embroiderers, Louise Carrière, Lucie Daigneault and Lise Goad will unveil their creations.

The three embroiderers have been working together, in the workshop, once a week for several months.

For as long as they can remember, they have always been interested in needlework and the textures of textile materials.  So much diversity, colors and discoveries animated their curiosity.  However, classic approaches to dotted canvases, etc. quickly limit their creativity.

"Our companionship allowed us to explore new approaches, share different techniques and seek more current avenues without constraints", they explained.

Threads, felt-tip pens, linen and other fabrics, metal, paper, wool, ribbons, and more, are part of their arsenal.

Experimental embroidery also allows the backdrop to be used as an integral part of the piece.  You can use ink, watercolor or even paint to add accents or special effects.   It also often allows us to draw inspiration from traditional know-how by using a method which consists of partially deconstructing old works and introducing contemporary techniques and materials.

"The know-how of yesteryear gives us a foundation that takes us to less traveled trails", they say. According to the three artists, it is for this reason that they chose to exhibit their work at the Abercorn Cultural Center by making a link with an old church transformed into a cultural center.  Tradition, experience and novelties make a beautiful mix. Transmission becomes innovative.  Hands to hands, heart to heart.

Poor relation of the visual arts, textile creation has not said its last word, hope the three embroiderers.
