In collaboration with the ACPA, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, Yolande Castonguay invites us to revisit a quarter of a century of creation.  The "MAIN LIBRE" exhibition will take place from July 11 to 19 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the week.

The "MAIN LIBRE" exhibition retraces a vibrant artistic adventure that has been taking place for 25 years. In a gesture of trust and freedom, the artist captures with passion and generosity a life experience which continues to deeply animate him.

Yolande Castonguay, originally from Saint-Roch-des Aulnaies, is a Quebec painter deeply marked by her childhood spent on a farm along the St. Lawrence River. His proximity to water, wide open spaces and nature have forged the very essence of his artistic approach.

In 1997, the adoption of his brother's children, two orphaned teenagers, was added to his three children and the family which has suddenly grown channels all his energies. It was only a few years later, feeling the need to take a step back, that she refocused her life around her passion and enrolled in various painting workshops, notably those of Francine Labelle.  With the wind in its sails, creation therefore becomes a vital necessity.

During the 2000s, she made numerous trips. They began by volunteering in a boys' orphanage in Bolivia, followed by stays in Argentina, Chile and Peru. Then it's Vietnam, China, India and Japan. These privileged moments deeply nourish his imagination and today permeate his paintings.

Since 2015, she has lived in Estrie which gives her great happiness. Walking in nature and observing birds are a source of inspiration that never runs dry. The smallest object takes on its own meaning, instilling ideas highlighted through paint and paper - such as the wind that brings objects to life or spurs the flight of birds.

The "MAIN LIBRE" exhibition is a retrospective of this exhilarating story that has continued for 25 years. In a gesture of faith and free expression, she exuberantly sketches this life experience that still inhabits her.

This is what she wants to share with you.
